We invite interpretations of the Outsiders theme from scholars of all periods of literary history and all theoretical positions. Papers are also welcome from 'Outside' the discipline of English Studies. Papers should last no more than 20 minutes.

Possible topics include: representations of the Outsider; aliens and exiles; the Outsider as interloper or recluse, as uninitiated or unenlightened; narrators and narrative voices as Outsiders (or insiders); the biographer as Outsider inside; supernatural Outsiders; 'the writer vs. the academic' - inside and Outside the creative process; the development and repositioning of English Studies within Cultural Studies - Art as Outsider; Outside the literary canon.

Plenary / keynote speakers to be announced shortly.
